Ballot to include Local Issues
It will be an exciting day on November 4 as America chooses its 44th president and his vice president. Heath residents will also be casting their vote on proposed amendments to the existing Home Rule Charter.
The first proposed amendment is changing the term “City” of Heath to “Village” of Heath with associated changes throughout the charter.
The second proposed Charter amendment involves changing Section 2.01 to create a sixth council place and Section 3.01 to provide for the Mayor to vote on matters brought before the City Council. The amendment will also remove the provision for mayoral veto. Currently, the Mayor only votes in the instance of a tie vote and has a veto option.
Additional information on the amendments is available at www.heathtx.com under the news and announcements section or by calling City Hall at 972-771-6228.

Congratulations. Yard of the Month goes to Kirk and Betty Sniffs - 412 Highmeadow. With a nice mix of color, great symmetry and a green and trimmed lawn 412 Highmeadow is a great example for us all to aspire to. Thanks to the Holloway’s for donating the new Yard of the Month sign. The neighborhood is really springing to life, keep up the good work. Take the time to say hi to your neighbor!

The City of Rockwall will host the 8th Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on April 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Service Center at 1600 Airport Road in Rockwall.
This event is open to all City of Rockwall, City of Heath and Rockwall County residents.
“We appreciate the invitation to participate in this important environmental project,” says Les Horvath, Administrative Projects Coordinator for the City of Heath. “We’re encouraging Heath residents to take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of their waste and also defray the program’s costs by making it a neighborhood or homeowner’s association project.”
For example, Monte Allred of Buffalo Creek Country Club Estates was honored in 2007 by the Heath City Council for making it more convenient for his neighbors to participate in the Collection Day. Mr. Allred collected his neighbors’ waste items on his trailer and made one trip to the collection site in Rockwall. By doing so, he also significantly reduced the City of Heath’s participation cost.
“We are looking for more volunteers who have a truck or trailer and would be willing to be responsible for their neighborhood’s participation,” says Mr. Horvath. “It is a one-day volunteer effort that makes a big difference in our community.”
To volunteer or get a voucher to participate, please contact Mr. Horvath at 972-961-4883. Items accepted in household quantities are: pesticides; paint products; household cleaners; herbicides; motor oil; automotive chemicals; swimming pool products; propane; medicines and prescription drugs; and tires without rims.

You may or may not know that Microsoft’s Live Maps now has a bird’s eye view that includes many of the neighborhoods in and around the City of Heath. Just visit www.maps.live.com, type in your address, zoom in and select “birds eye” from the menu.
You can also get a street image view of the neighborhood by doing a similar thing with Google Maps - just click on “street view” in the balloon popup.
